Permanent Exclusion  Discipline Committee training

We know that holding a permanent exclusion discipline committee can be daunting and is something that boards want to ensure they do correctly for the protection of the pupil and education setting involved. This training is aimed at ensuring your committee can proceed confidently with the right knowledge and understanding on the procedure and their role within it.

This virtual 3 hour training session is for all Headteachers, Governors, Trustees and Clerks (Governance Professionals) to ensure they are able to effectively undertake their statutory duty to review a headteacher decision to permanently exclude a pupil/student within 15 school days of the decision being made.

Whilst it is not a statutory requirement for governors and trustees, this training will help ensure compliance with all statutory requirements of the Department for Education's Suspension and permanent exclusion from maintained schools, academies and pupil referral units in England, including pupil movement Guidance for maintained schools, academies, and pupil referral units in England (August 2024).

This is an important training session aimed at supporting the Governing Board Discipline Committee to discharge their duty effectively and therefore help safeguard against any future Independent Review Panel recommending or directing the governing board to reconsider their decision to uphold the Headteacher's decision to permanently exclude a pupil/student on the grounds of illegality, procedural impropriety or irrationality.
