National Leaders of Education
WHAT ARE NLES?
National Leaders of Education (NLEs) are outstanding Headteachers or Principals who, together with the staff in their schools (designated National Support Schools (NSS), use their skills and experience to support schools in challenging circumstances.
In addition to leading their own schools, NLEs work to increase the leadership capacity of other schools to help raise standards.
We currently have 2 NLEs in the WAM alliance:
NLE | School | Phase |
Jon Mason | Chepping View Primary Academy | Primary |
Lorraine Sutherland | Chesham Bois C of E School | Primary |
For more information please go to the DfE site: Teaching Schools and System Leaders
HOW CAN AN NLE SUPPORT MY SCHOOL?
NLEs can undertake a variety of support work:
- One-to-one support for new headteachers or principals
- Support programme for heads leading schools in challenging circumstances
- Support to write and implement pre or post-Ofsted action plans
- Managing the deployment of SLEs and other staff from their school to do support work with staff in another school
The support work of an NLE can be varied in timescale according to your needs. It might be 1 day of support, a weekly arrangement or a block of support.
