Headteacher Appraisal
Headteacher appraisal or performance management is normally carried out by a panel which includes two or three governors or trustees and an external advisor.
The role of the external advisor is to provide advice and support to the governors in the process of the appraisal. Inspiring Futures Professional Development can provide a suitably experience external advisor to support with the appraisal of:
- Headteachers or Principals
- Executive Headteachers or Principals
- Trust Leaders
- Trust CEOs
The Appraisal Process with IFPD
Target Setting
Our external advisors will support and advise the panel with target setting in the Autumn term, with due regard for the Headteacher Standards, the Ethical Principles Framework and DfE Appraisal guidance, as well as the established and emergency needs of the school/s. Targets will be drawn from the evidence provided by the leader.
Mid-Year Review
They will ensure that appraisal is a collaborative and developmental process by providing a coaching call at the start of the Spring term to support with progress against targets set. This will be followed by a mid-year review meeting to assess progress and determine any changes that may be required due to the circumstances at hand.
End of Year Review
Finally the external advisor will meet with the panel and the leader to determine if targets have been achieved, celebrate success and to discuss any emerging ideas for targets for the following year. This will then allow the panel to make a recommendation for pay progression to the Governing Body/Board of Trustees.
